What is a Sexual Assault?

Sexual assault is any intentional sexual contact characterized by the use of force, threats, intimidation, or abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent. Within the military justice system, the term includes a broad category of sexual offenses consisting of the following specific Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) offenses: rape, sexual assault, aggravated sexual contact, abusive sexual contact, forcible sodomy (forced oral or anal sex), or attempts to commit these offenses.  Each offense has unique elements as defined in Article 120, UCMJ. If you believe that you are the victim of a sexual offense, you are encouraged to make a report.
