NCIS Honors Internship Program
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) Honors Internship program shapes the future generation of law enforcement professionals by offering interns hands-on, real-world experiences to gain relevant work experience, skill sets, knowledge, and professional development toward attaining educational and career goals. The internship is paid, the compensation is GS-3, Step 1, or GS-4, Step 1. GS-3, Step 1 is completion of one full academic year post-high school study and GS-4, Step 1 is completion of two full academic years of post-high school study or associate’s degree. This minimum 10-week experience immerses interns in unique experiences such as law enforcement, national security, intelligence, and cyber while working alongside experienced NCIS personnel. All academic backgrounds are invited to apply. NCIS strives to place students in internships that match academic background, studies, and interests.
NCIS currently offers three separate internship programs annually at NCIS Headquarters or field offices:
Spring Internship (January – May/June)
Application deadline: August 1
Summer Internship (May/June – August)
Application deadline: November 30
Fall Internship (August – December)
Application deadline: April 30
Eligibility requirements include enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate school, minimum 3.0 GPA or higher, U.S. Citizenship, and meets NCIS drug policy, including no marijuana use in the last 3 years.

NCIS Wounded Warrior Intern Program
The NCIS Wounded Warrior intern program is for active-duty service members waiting for medical retirement or return to active duty the opportunity to intern at NCIS headquarters in Quantico, VA, or an NCIS field office. Eligibility requires Secret security clearance or higher, favorable NCIS suitability check, and a minimum three-month internship timeframe commitment.
