A Legacy of Service to his Country: Roy Mosteller was just a lad in high school when he decided he wanted to join the Navy. Being born and raised in Long Beach, California, he felt the Navy was the only choice for him. It was the early years of World War II. He remembers flipping through his high school yearbook and seeing that nearly a quarter of the boys he went to school with were already in the military. Determined to serve, he met with recruiters, only to be turned away because he wore glasses. He didn’t let the rejection deter him, however. With the country at war, he was confident the Selective Service would soon be calling. Read more here.

Joint Child Exploitation Operation Leads to Arrests of 10, including 4 Undocumented Foreign Nationals: The NCIS Norfolk Field Office, in conjunction with Homeland Security Investigations and the Hampton Police Department, conducted a proactive child exploitation operation resulting in the arrest of 10 subjects, including four undocumented foreign nationals, March 20-22 in the Hampton Roads area. Over the course of the three-day operation, subjects communicated with an undercover agent posing as a young underage female on various social media platforms with the intention of soliciting sexual acts from the purported minor. NCIS Participates in Multiagency Takedown of Drug Trafficking Network: NCIS Resident Agency San Diego and the Homeland Security Investigations San Diego Fentanyl Abatement and Suppression Team executed a search warrant in Escondido, California, in March as part of a large-scale takedown operation in support of a broader investigation into an Escondido-based drug trafficking organization involved with distributing large quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and Adderall. NCIS Executes Search Warrant Resulting in Arrests, Federal Immigration Charges for Defense Contractor: Four employees of San Diego Powder & Protective Coatings, a Department of the Navy-affiliated contractor located in El Cajon, California, are facing federal immigration charges following the execution of a search warrant by the NCIS Resident Agency San Diego and Homeland Security Investigations San Diego on March 27. Civilian Drug Dealer Responsible for Death of Marine Sentenced to 12 Years in Federal Prison: A civilian drug dealer was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison April 3 following an NCIS and Drug Enforcement Administration investigation into the overdose death of a 25-year-old active-duty Marine stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii in Honolulu. Rayshaun Ducos, 27, previously pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute and possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking in December 2024. He also admitted to selling cocaine that resulted in the Marine’s overdose death. Read more here.

Gregory A. Scovel Jr. Sworn in as NCIS Deputy Director: Special Agent Gregory A. Scovel Jr. was sworn in as the NCIS Deputy Director during a ceremony on April 21 at the Pentagon. The Department of the Navy Chief of Staff, Mr. Jon Harrison, presided over the ceremony with NCIS Director Omar Lopez, retired NCIS acting Director Gregory A. Scovel Sr., and other DON leaders in attendance. Deputy Director Scovel serves as the agency’s Chief Operating Officer, assisting the Director and overseeing all NCIS investigative, operational, and management and operational support functions. Joint Investigation Results in Four Solved South Florida Cold Case Homicides Related to MS-13: The Broward Sheriff’s Office, the NCIS Southeast Field Office, FBI Miami, Customs and Border Protection Miami, Homeland Security Investigations Miami, the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida recently announced nine arrests in connection with four homicides in South Florida related to the MS-13 gang in 2014 and 2015. Six suspects have already pleaded guilty and are facing mandatory life prison sentences. Read more here.
