Southwest Field Office

Overview

The Southwest Field Office (SWFO) – NCIS’ largest field office – is located on Naval Base San Diego. SWFO provides support to Department of the Navy (DON) equities in California, Arizona, Nevada, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Mexico. SWFO delivers critical criminal investigative and counterintelligence capabilities throughout the AOR. SWFO also supports naval forces transiting Mexico and deploys Special Agents aboard Navy ships homeported in San Diego. SWFO maintains full-time representation at U.S. Third Fleet.

SWFO combats criminal and national security threats to enable DON warfighter readiness and lethality. SWFO applies criminal investigative and counterintelligence capabilities, and leverages robust partner integration, to defeat threats and strengthen the DON’s superiority. SWFO’s capability and impact are critical in a major Navy fleet concentration area and homeport to the Pacific Fleet Surface Navy.

Partnership & Coordination

SWFO works closely with numerous federal law enforcement partners, such as FBI, HSI, DEA, and ATF; various state and local law enforcement organizations; DoW counterparts; and multiple U.S. Attorney’s Offices to ensure optimal integration and impact to safeguard DON equities. SWFO personnel are embedded in the Homeland Security Task Force, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Forces, Counterintelligence Task Forces, DEA Task Forces, San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force, San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and HSI Fentanyl Abatement and Suppression Team.
 

Living & Working There

SWFO is staffed by a mix of Special Agents, Investigators, Intelligence Analysts, and support personnel. Special Agents lead criminal investigations and counterintelligence matters. Analysts provide intelligence and analytical expertise, and support staff manage logistics, case management, and administrative functions.

SWFO personnel benefit from diverse professional experiences, high impact work, and numerous opportunities for professional growth.  SWFO’s various operating locations also enable personnel to enjoy quality of life opportunities in major cities and beautiful coastal, desert, mountain, and rural environments. The SWFO AOR also affords access to numerous outdoor/recreational activities and destinations such as Yosemite, Joshua Tree, and Redwood National Parks as well as Big Sur, Napa Valley, and Lake Tahoe.
