Cyber Specialist

The NCIS Cyber Department utilizes advanced cyber technologies and methodologies to process, identify, and present electronic data of intelligence or evidentiary value.  In applying expertise in dissecting and analyzing almost any form of electronic communications, memory storage device or network system, the Cyber Department  plays a critical role in core NCIS missions: combating terrorism, counterintelligence and general criminal investigations.
  • Computer Scientists develop innovative and specialized tools, analyze and write code, install network devices and conduct testing of software and equipment. They share their expertise and insights by providing technical assistance to other Cyber personnel within the intelligence community, not only in the United States, but assist other countries dealing with similar challenges of data and data systems attacks.
  • Investigative Computer Specialists primarily focus on computer forensics and other storage devices and provide rapid response to computer intrusion incidents.
  • Cyber Intelligence Analysts specialize in review of Cyber data for items of potential intelligence value, and apply their expertise to produce actionable intelligence products.

Specialized training is provided to NCIS Cyber Department personnel through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) and Defense Computer Investigations Training Academy (DCITA), plus specialized equipment vendor training programs and technical conferences.
