Special Agent Brett Alan McKee was born April 23, 1959, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated from East Tennessee State University in 1980 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He spent two years with the Spartanburg Police Department before enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1983.
Brett served as a Military Policeman before becoming a criminal investigator with the Marine Corps Criminal Investigation Division (CID). He was assigned as a Military Special Agent with the Naval Investigative Service at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Brett served as a CID polygraph examiner and deployed during Operation DESERT STORM before his discharge from the Marine Corps. In March 1992, he joined the Naval Investigative Service Command as a Special Agent in the Camp Lejeune office. On November 25, 1992, Brett was killed in an automobile accident during an undercover operation.
Brett was an avid hunter and dog lover who is remembered for his outstanding investigative abilities, professionalism, and high standards evident throughout his military and NCIS careers.
Special Agent McKee’s name is engraved on panel 54-E, line 18, at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
