CI Joseph Emanuele

Investigator Joseph Emanuele was born March 19, 1947, in Sicily, Italy. He immigrated to the United States to attend college, and after a year of study, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. During the Vietnam War, Joe was wounded twice in combat and received two Purple Hearts. After the war, he became a United States citizen.

Joe joined the Naval Investigative Service Command in 1988 and served as an investigator in the Sigonella office for more than six years. On October 16, 1993, Joe was returning from a covert surveillance assignment when he was killed in an automobile accident.

Joe is remembered as an extremely successful investigator and a valuable Naval Criminal Investigative Service liaison to local Italian authorities. He served loyally and with distinction, and Joe was admired by coworkers for his bravado and love for his family.

Investigator Emanuele’s name is engraved on panel 26-W, line 20, at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
