The NCIS mission is to investigate and defeat criminal, foreign, and terrorist intelligence threats to the United States Navy and Marine Corps, wherever they operate: ashore, afloat, or in cyberspace.

Norfolk Field Office

The Norfolk Field Office is located aboard the Naval Station in Norfolk, VA, and provides support to Navy and Marine Corps installations and Joint Forces Command in the Norfolk area. The Norfolk Field Office is responsible for the NCIS mission in the Hampton Roads area. The Naval Station Norfolk is the largest military base in the world, with 14 piers, 15 aircraft hangers, and tens of thousands of Sailors and Marines living and working in the area.

In addition to working general crimes cases, Special Agents assigned to the Norfolk Field Office are involved in counterintelligence and counterterrorism cases, computer investigations and operations initiatives. Agents in the Norfolk also work in the field office's Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) and Major Case Response Team (MCRT).
