Sexual assault is any intentional sexual contact characterized by the use of force, threats, intimidation, or abuse of authority or when the victim does not or cannot consent. Within the military justice system, the term includes a broad category of sexual offenses consisting of the following specific Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) offenses: rape, sexual assault, aggravated sexual contact, abusive sexual contact, forcible sodomy (forced oral or anal sex), or attempts to commit these offenses.  Each offense has unique elements as defined in Article 120, UCMJ. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) currently estimates that over half of women and one in three men have experienced sexual violence involving physical contact during their lifetimes.  If you feel that you are the victim of a sexual offense, you are not alone, and you are encouraged to make a report.

NCIS is responsible for investigating all reports of sexual assault within the Navy and Marine Corps, and our team stands ready to help victims of sexual assault by investigating each allegation and uncovering the truth of what happened.
