Investigative Records Request

Resources

Records Management Branch provides investigative information to other Federal agencies within and outside of the Department of Defense as well as state, and local government agencies. Information provided enables the requesting agency to make a determination regarding suitability for clearances and special programs, on-going criminal and counterintelligence investigations, law enforcement employment background verification, as well as other purposes.

Individuals requesting information for personal use must use the Freedom of Information Act request process, found here

All requests for NCIS investigative information must be submitted on requesting agency letter head stationary and must be signed by an authorized representative. Requests for employment background/licensing checks require current/signed waiver by subject to be submitted with request. Department of Defense requests must be signed by the Commander/ Commanding Officer/Director or by a representative with “By direction” authority. All requests must state the specific reason for requesting the investigative record.

Requests for investigative information should be faxed to NCIS Headquarters for processing.
