SECNAVINST 5510.36A along with the SECNAV M-5510.36 establishes the Department of the Navy Information Security Program (ISP) under the authority of Executive Order 12958, as amended, and in compliance with Department of Defense Regulation 5200.1-R, "Information Security Program, January 1997." The ISP applies uniform, consistent, and cost-effective policies and procedures to the classification, safeguarding, transmission, and destruction of classified information. This regulation also provides guidance on security education and the industrial security program.
